“A client came to England a few years ago but a recent change in circumstances, the loss of a family member, forced her to find a job and learn English so that she could settle properly into life in England. This lady in her 40s came to PBIC and received help from our advisors regarding career advice. She signed up for our ESOL class as this was her main obstacle.
She has been my student since the beginning of the year. In our class, we have covered the language needed for daily life in England. This client has learned how to ask for and give personal information, how to speak with others about familiar topics and practised listening for details. Even though we are still a long way from the end of the course, I have already seen the positive impact of this PBIC service on this client. She is much more comfortable being in the classroom, she is motivated to learn in every lesson and the new vocabulary gained by her mean that she can now hold a basic conversation in English.
I believe that this progress will continue, and the improved English skills will allow the client to settle, achieve and contribute to Bedford’s community as a result of the ESOL provision at PBIC.”
