Proving your Settled/Pre-Settled status
As the EU Settlement Scheme applications deadline passed on the 30th of June 2021, over 5 million EEA nationals living in the United Kingdom have submitted their application and have received status under the EU Settlement Scheme.
A successful application under the EU Settlement Scheme secures the rights of EEA nationals and their families in the UK after the 1st of July 2021.
These rights include:
- Right to work in the UK
- Right to rent in the UK
- Right to access the National Health Service (NHS)
- Right to access public funds such as benefits and pensions, if eligible
- Right to enrol in education on continue studying
- Right to travel in and out of the EU
From the 1st of July 2021 local councils, landlords and employers can request a confirmation of status from EEA nationals living in the United Kingdom.
If you have been asked to prove your status to someone, you can generate a share code from View and prove your immigration status on gov.uk. Your decision letter is not proof of your status.
Get a share code here: https://www.gov.uk/view-prove-immigration-status
To view or prove your immigration status you will need:
- details of the identity document you used when you applied (your passport, national identity card, or biometric residence card or permit)
- your date of birth
- access to the mobile number or email address you used when you applied, you’ll receive a code for logging in
After you have logged into your account, you can generate a share code to prove your status. The share code is valid for 30 days, so if you need to prove your status under the EU Settlement Scheme to someone else you can re-use the code you have generated or create a new one – there is no limit to how many codes can be used at the same time.
If you applied to the EU Settlement Scheme by 30 June 2021 and you’re waiting for a decision, you have the same rights to live and work in the UK as you had before 30 June 2021. You can prove your rights in the UK using your Certificate of Application – you would have been emailed your certificate when you applied under the EU Settlement Scheme.
It is important that you keep your personal details on your UKVI account up to date.
You can update your details through the update your UK Visas and Immigration account details service or by using the ‘update details’ function in the View and Prove service.
You will need to update your details if there are changes to:
- your ID document, passport or travel document
- your account sign in details (email address and phone number)
- your name or nationality
